Marc Gordon is a semi-professional guitarist, composer and guitar coach living in West Wales.

His musical 'roots' are in Blues & Jazz (from his dads regular playing of all manner of 1950's & 60’s Blues and Trad Jazz!), but his tastes have now expanded in all directions. His great love is to feel the vitality of (some) live music which generates or re-generates the energy felt by the composer and musicians.

He has played guitar in a broad spectrum of styles as a soloist, in Welsh and Irish folk groups as well Blues and Soft Rock/Pop bands/duo’s.

The last three years has seen Marc focus on composing and playing his own compositions and arrangements with encouragement and coaching from Annette Ecuyere, a Creative Coach based near Newcastle Emlyn.

The majority of his solo guitar compositions are descriptive pieces communicating his image of people (portraits), scenes or emotions to his audience. As Marc enjoys ‘fresh’ music, many of his pieces are primarily improvisation around a concept framework, which means that no two performances are exactly the same. Audiences either get involved in discovering the images his music provokes or just enjoy the music when ‘chilling-out’.

Marc’s arrangements of popular tunes are sometimes played as solo pieces but are more often duets with female vocalists, with the addition of improvisation to challenge the singers to add their own special touch.

In common with most guitarists, he enjoys ‘jamming’ and also relishes opportunities for impromptu-improvised duets with other musicians including Flute, Sax, and Digeridoo players.

When asked to categorise his music Marc struggles to identify a genre that suits as his own special style embodies classical, jazz, folk, blues and rock. His coach has suggested Isomorphism (“the pattern which connects two different kinds of things”) as she feels his music “provokes involvement in his imagery and also allows space for the listener to explore their own images and emotions”. – Suggestions for the label that fits Marc’s music are welcome.

Also in the last 3 years Marc has been increasing involved in supporting charity events and fund raising, primarily for Multiple Sclerosis.
In 2009 he organised a song writing competition as part of the Newcastle Emlyn ‘Heart of the Dragon Festival’ with entries from West and South Wales. Following this events’ success Marc is now looking to organise another competition in 2010 and expand the entry list to all of Wales.

Marc is also looking to encourage his young guitar pupils and other young musicians by including on this web-site information and contact points for performance and jamming session opportunities, bands looking for musicians and musicians looking for bands.

As he is not yet able to make a full living from music (in common with most musicians) and as he enjoys diversity in life, Marc supplements his living expenses by repairing clocks and buying & selling musical instruments (mainly stringed), clocks and antiques.
